FARNINGHAM – Two police officers are in critical condition and a member of the public remains seriously injured following a high-impact collision on the A20 London Road on Thursday night. The crash occurred at approximately 7:45 pm on March 19 at the junction with Button Street.
According to investigators, a marked Ford Focus police car responding to an emergency call collided with a blue Volkswagen Scirocco on the westbound carriageway.
Emergency crews and paramedics arrived at the scene to find three people with life-threatening or serious injuries. All three were rushed to a London hospital for treatment, where the two officers remain in a critical state. The member of the public involved is reported to be in a serious condition and continues to receive medical attention.
The westbound stretch of the A20 was closed for several hours as forensic collision investigators processed the scene. Due to the involvement of a police vehicle on an emergency call, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct to ensure a transparent investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Officers are now urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information. Investigators are particularly interested in viewing dashcam footage from any vehicles travelling on the A20 near Farningham between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm, or hearing from anyone who observed the movements of either vehicle prior to the collision.
