The Leader of Dover District Council has praised the EU’s decision to delay the controversial Entry Exit System (EES) checks, initially slated for 10 November.

Councillor Kevin Mills, head of DDC, expressed his relief, saying,

“This postponement is crucial for us. We now have time to ensure we have the right infrastructure to prevent catastrophic traffic chaos in Dover.”

Dover’s border, already known for its fragility, has often faced massive queues and gridlock during peak travel times. The introduction of EES checks threatened to exacerbate these issues. Cllr Mills emphasized the importance of this delay, allowing more time to prepare and avoid further disruption.

As Dover waits for more information on the new implementation date, the council remains committed to working with partners to prioritize the community’s needs and prevent future havoc.
