A fire which broke out at The Laleham care home on Central Parade in Herne Bay this morning, prompted a significant response from emergency services. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) deployed eight fire engines and two height vehicles to tackle the blaze, which is now reported to be under control and contained.
The incident, which reportedly began at 08:18am on Sunday, March 16, 2025, saw firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, utilizing high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the flames. Crews actively assisted care home staff in the swift and safe evacuation of residents.
Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), are also on the scene, providing support.
A spokesman from KFRS said:
“Crews are working to assist staff to evacuate residents as quickly and safely as possible. The fire is now under control and contained.”

56 residents were safely evacuated and one has been passed into the care of SECamb paramedics.
