Get ready to power up! Ashford Borough Council (ABC) has successfully completed the initial phase of its ambitious Electric Vehicle Charge Point (EVCP) installation project, electrifying car parks across the borough.
A total of 29 EVCPs are now available at seven convenient locations, boasting a whopping 53 connections for eager electric vehicle owners. From the bustling Edinburgh Road to the picturesque Tenterden Leisure Centre, residents and visitors alike can easily find a place to recharge their rides.
“This is a major step forward in our commitment to becoming a Green Pioneer,” declared Cllr Simon Betty, portfolio holder. “With electric vehicles rapidly gaining popularity, we’re thrilled to provide the necessary infrastructure to support our residents and pave the way for a sustainable future.”
And the good news doesn’t stop there! Kent County Council is also making it easier than ever to charge up at home. Residents can now request an EVCP installation near their property, ensuring that every electric vehicle owner has convenient access to charging.
So, whether you’re cruising around town or embarking on a scenic road trip, Ashford Borough Council has you covered. Buckle up and enjoy the electric ride!
The Vicarage Lane car park installation now means that there are 29 EVCPs in ABC car parks in Ashford and Tenterden, with 53 connections. These can be found in the following locations:
- Edinburgh Road car park (six)
- Civic Centre car park (nine)
- Vicarage Lane car park (three)
- Station Road (Tenterden) car park (two)
- Elwick Place car park (three)
- Victoria Road car park (two)
- Tenterden Leisure Centre car park (two)
- Station Road (Ashford) car park (two)
Further information on these EVCPs can be found on the Ashford BC website.
With over 2000 registered electric vehicles within the borough and counting, having EVCPs in place is not only important from an ABC perspective to hit its carbon neutral target, but also for residents who are embracing modern technology.
“Completing these EVCP installations in car parks across the borough reaffirms our commitment to being a Green Pioneer, as laid out within the council’s Corporate Plan,” portfolio holder Cllr Simon Betty said. “Electric vehicles are the future and are growing in popularity, so the more we can do to get ahead of the curve and assist our residents, the better.”
Kent County Council are also offering residents the chance to request a EVCP closer to their home, as they aim to have EVCPs in walking distance to any household that has an electric vehicle. Residents can suggest a potential charging point via the Kent County Council website.
The public charge points are owned and operated by Globe EV, previously owned by BMM Networks. The budget for installing the EVCPs was funded by the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Department for Transport.
