Two adventurous climbers had a close call when they found themselves stranded on a precarious ledge near Townwall Street, in Dover, today 22 July 2023.

The fearless pair had been scaling the steep cliff face when they ran into trouble and could not go up or down. They called for help and waited patiently for their rescue.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service arrived just after noon with four fire engines and a rope rescue unit. They teamed up with the Coastguard to lower a lifeline to the trapped twosome and hoist them to safety.

The climbers were unharmed after their ordeal.
