Witnesses are sought after a man reported being robbed at a supermarket cashpoint in Chatham.

The victim withdrew the money from a machine outside Asda in Maidstone Road, at around 6.30pm on Friday 10 February 2023.

Grabbed

While the victim was withdrawing the cash, a man is alleged to have grabbed him before threatening him and demanding he hand over the money. The suspect then took the cash and walked away towards Maidstone Road.

Alarming incident

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Scott Kitchener of Medway CID said: ‘This is an alarming incident which is reported to have happened outside a busy supermarket at a time of day when a lot of shoppers were around.

‘We have reviewed CCTV and are continuing to carry out various lines of enquiry. We know there were quite a few people near to the incident when it happened and it might be that you saw the robbery and didn’t quite realise what was happening at the time but remember where the suspect went or saw him get into a vehicle. If you have any information, no matter what it is, please get in touch.’

Description of suspect

The offender has been described as a man aged between 20 and 30 years old. He was of slim build and approximately five feet eight inches tall.

He was wearing a black coat with the hood up and the coat had a circular emblem on the coat’s left arm. He also wore black ripped jeans and light brown boots or trainers. The suspect had his face covered by a black balaclava.
