A driver who failed to stop in Chatham when officers requested him to do so was halted in Lamberhurst High Street, around 30 miles away.

In the early hours of Friday 20 January 2023 patrolling officers saw a motorist driving through two red lights in Dock Road, Chatham.

They signalled for the driver to pull over, however he refused to do so and instead led officers on a pursuit through Maidstone, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

Stinger

The car was safely stopped after police successfully used a stinger device to stop the vehicle in Lamberhurst High Street.

Officers arrested the driver, a 30-year-old man from east Sussex, on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed to do so, driving while under the influence of drink or drugs and driving without a licence.

A passenger inside the car was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

The driver has since been released on bail until Tuesday 18 April while further enquiries are carried out.

The passenger will not face any further action.
