Witnesses are being sought following an attempted robbery in Whitstable.

At around 1.20pm on Friday 30 September 2022, a man in his 70s was struck to the head as he walked in Oxford Street, near the junction with Cromwell Road.

The offender then attempted the steal the victim’s wallet before leaving the area empty-handed. The victim contacted a relative who phoned police and officers attended the scene.

An investigation is now being carried out by Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Crime Squad, who are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his 30s, with gingery-coloured hair and a goatee beard.

Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said: ‘Thankfully the victim did not suffer serious injuries, but the incident must have been deeply upsetting for him and his family.

‘I am very keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, particularly any members of the public who may have pursued the offender after the attempted robbery.’
