Two suspected burglars have been arrested just 30 minutes after a break-in was reported in Chatham.

Officers discovered the men following a search near the High Street, after an alarm had activated at Sports Direct.

Kent Police was called to the area at 1.08am on Wednesday 17 August 2022.

It was established a door had been forced and items including clothing and shoes had been stolen.

Several bags containing pairs of boxed trainers were recovered close to the store.

Speedy searches lead to arrests

The suspects had fled the scene when patrols arrived, and officers checked the surrounding streets and alleyways. Two men were swiftly located, hiding within a bush.

Aged 45 and 51, and both from Chatham, they were arrested in connection with burglary, going equipped for theft and for possessing a bladed article in public.

They were later released from custody, pending further investigation.
