A man who attempted to evade arrest by running from officers and hiding behind a tree has been detained.

Kent Police was called to a car on fire in Upper Road, Dover, shortly before 11am on Monday 28 February 2022. It was reported the vehicle had been stolen and officers began to search for the suspect.

A patrol were looking for the suspect in Connaught Park and approached a male who they thought may be involved in the incident. On seeing the officers, the man is reported to have run away and was found a short while later hiding behind a tree. He was detained and searched resulting in a knife being seized.

A man in his 30s from Yorkshire was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, driving without insurance, criminal damage and possessing a knife. He has been bailed to the police station pending further enquiries until 17 March 2022.
