An 18-year-old man is to appear in court charged in connection with violence disorder in Canterbury.

A further eight people have also been arrested as part of an investigation by Kent Police into the disturbance on Wednesday 1 September 2021.

Officers were called to the St George’s Street area in the city centre at around 3pm to a report of two groups of teenagers involved in an altercation.

An 18-year-old man from Canterbury, was charged on Friday 3 September with a public order offence in which he is accused of using or threatening unlawful violence with others to cause fear. He remains in custody and is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on the same day.

Six boys from Canterbury, aged between 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. A 14-year-old boy from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of failing to leave  the area when directed. A 15-year-old boy from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon (chair leg).

They have all been released on bail pending further investigation.
