A suspect has been charged with eight offences following an investigation by officers in Canterbury.
Reports of theft were made from several businesses across the Canterbury area, including a clothing store, a supermarket on Sturry Road, a convenience store in Herne Bay, and a supermarket in Whitstable on four separate occasions between 5 June and 13 June 2026. Items reported stolen included clothing, meat, and alcohol.
Two assaults were also alleged to have taken place during the incidents, involving threats made to a security guard and a member of the public who attempted to intervene.
Following enquiries, officers made an arrest on Monday 27 July. The suspect was subsequently charged with four counts of theft and two counts of assault.
Further charges were brought against the suspect, including a public order offence in relation to a disturbance involving a group of people at a Northgate car park on 24 July, alongside racially aggravated harassment regarding comments reportedly made to a police officer while in custody. The 38-year-old suspect appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 28 July and was remanded in custody to reappear before the same court on 4 August.
