A high-stakes police operation has disrupted a suspected organised criminal network in Thanet, resulting in the seizure of a massive haul of cooking oil and the arrest of three suspects.
The dramatic intervention unfolded on the evening of Friday 5 June 2026, when eagle-eyed patrol officers spotted a white Peugeot van acting suspiciously in the Bromstone Road area of Broadstairs at around 7pm. Refusing to let the vehicle slip away, proactive units launched a covert pursuit, tracking the van across the district to Canterbury Road in Westgate-on-Sea.
In a swift and coordinated move, officers intercepted the vehicle and forced it to a halt, immediately detaining the occupants before they could flee the scene.
A thorough search of the van uncovered a significant cache of large containers filled with cooking oil, which police believe to be the illicit spoils of a wider theft ring targeting local businesses. The entire cargo was promptly confiscated as forensic evidence.
Three Bulgarian nationals, aged 26, 24, and 18, all residing in the Tottenham area of North London, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft.
