Firefighters are tackling a blaze involving electrical waste at an industrial premises in Gas Road, Sittingbourne, which broke out on the morning of Thursday 4 June 2026.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service initially deployed six fire engines to the scene at 11:32am. By 1:30pm, officials extended safety advice to residents in Kemsley after a shift in wind direction began pushing smoke toward the area.
By 2:45pm, the response escalated to seven fire engines, a bulk water carrier, a command support unit, and a technical rescue unit. In the latest update at 4:50pm, crews wearing breathing apparatus were continuing to make steady progress using high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the flames.
People living or working near Gas Road and the surrounding affected areas are continually advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution against smoke. No injuries have been reported. Officials urge the public to share these safety updates with neighbours who may not have internet access.
