Police in Canterbury have secured more than 20 charges against several individuals following a series of arrests between 6 and 9 March 2026.

The crackdown targeted various thefts across the city, including the shoplifting of high-value fragrances, designer clothing, and over £450 worth of cleaning products.

Additional charges were brought regarding the assault of retail staff and the theft of groceries and alcohol. While one individual has already received a suspended sentence, several other suspects have been bailed to appear before magistrates in April and May.

Sergeant Emily Thayre said:

‘We never underestimate the damaging impact that shoplifting can have on businesses and residents. Through our dedicated team of officers, we’re committed to bringing suspected offenders before the courts, while strengthening our relationships with local shops and business owners, and increasing confidence within our communities.’
