Kent Police has taken a firm stance on road safety in Thanet, with a recent operation yielding significant results.
On Wednesday, December 18th, officers patrolled the Cliftonville, Millmead, Pysons Road, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate areas, keeping a watchful eye on speeding motorists. Over 50 vehicles were pulled over for various offences, including:
- Defective vehicles: Worn-out tires, faulty number plates, and illegal window tints were among the issues identified.
- Unsafe driving practices: Numerous drivers were caught without seatbelts or insurance.
- Speeding: A total of three drivers were reported for exceeding the speed limit.
The most serious incident involved a 36-year-old Margate man who was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after being stopped in Princess Margaret Avenue, Cliftonville. He has since been released on bail.
Kent Police’s message is clear: road safety is paramount. By taking proactive steps to enforce traffic laws and educate drivers, they aim to reduce accidents and keep the community safe.
Local Inspector Jim Woodward said:
‘Further traffic operations are being planned during the festive period and people are reminded not to get behind the wheel if they have been drinking alcohol. They may also find they are still over the legal limit the morning after a night out, so make plans to use public transport or get a lift from a friend.
‘Always ensure your vehicle is in a roadworthy state, regularly check lights, tyres and brakes and do not drive if you do not have the correct documents.
‘During this season of goodwill, this is a reminder that everyone has a responsibility to keep the road safe for all.’
