Dozens of residents engaged with police during a violence against women and girls (VAWG) awareness day in Rochester High Street on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
Organised by Medway’s Neighbourhood Policing Team alongside local councillors, street pastors, and the Lord Lieutenant, the community event saw women complete over 50 safety surveys detailing their views on local security. Officers distributed safety equipment, including personal attack alarms, torches, and anti-spiking kits, while also seizing an illegal e-scooter ridden past the stand during the event.

Medway beat officer Police Constable Heather Greenwood said:
‘This event proved a valuable opportunity to engage with the community while providing tools and advice that can help deter VAWG offences.
‘It was also excellent to be joined by our community partners, and it is positive to see the strength of their support in tackling this type of offending.
‘To be able to seize an e-scooter as well was just the icing on the cake.’
