Two men have been jailed at Canterbury Crown Court after breaking into a Ramsgate home and stabbing a man multiple times with machetes.
Toby Scales, 22, received a nine-year sentence, while Tyler Walsh, 29, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 9 April 2025, when the pair entered a property on Boundary Road through a downstairs window and stole £500 in cash. Emergency services arrived within minutes of a 2.40am call from a woman reporting that her partner had been stabbed by a masked attacker.
Police officers administered first aid to the 23-year-old victim, who was rushed to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators identified Scales after the resident recognised his voice during the raid. CCTV enquiries also tracked the suspects to a Vauxhall Meriva parked outside the address.
Walsh was arrested the same day at his property, where officers seized a balaclava, cash, and cocaine. Scales though evaded police for five days before surrendering at Margate Police Station. Both men initially denied the charges but pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm on the first day of their trial. Walsh was also convicted of cocaine possession.
Detective Constable Karl Shonhard said:
‘This was an extremely violent and unprovoked attack which has left the victims with lifelong physical and psychological damage. Both Walsh and Scales acted with no regard to anyone but themselves and their financial greed.
‘I welcome the sentence passed down today and hope it can provide some closure and comfort to the victims as they continue to heal from the ordeal.’
