By Ray Duff HYTHE — High Street shoppers are set to lose a long-standing fixture in the town following news that the local TG Jones—formerly WHSmith—is closing its doors.
Large “Closing Down” signs have appeared in the storefront windows, signaling the end of the store’s run in the heart of Hythe.
The announcement comes shortly after news that the neighboring Deal branch of TG Jones is also slated for closure. Both locations are part of a massive nationwide contraction by the retailer, which is currently shuttering 150 of its 450 stores across the country.
While Hythe retains other local newsagents, residents will lose access to the broader inventory provided by TG Jones, particularly its extensive range of stationery and office supplies. Should the nearby Folkestone branch remain open, local shoppers will face a journey out of town to find a similar selection under the brand.
