Firefighters were called to action early on Tuesday afternoon following reports of a grass fire in Barham, Canterbury.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service deployed four fire engines to the incident on Elham Valley Road after receiving the initial alert at 1:22 pm. Crews on site utilised fire beaters and high-pressure hose reel jets to suppress and extinguish the flames, successfully bringing the situation under control by 2:43 pm.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and the cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage.
In the wake of the blaze, fire officials are urging members of the public to exercise heightened caution during the summer months to help prevent outdoor fires. Key advice includes disposing of cigarettes properly rather than throwing them on the ground, and taking all litter home, as reflective rubbish can easily ignite dry grass in direct sunlight. Furthermore, the service advises against lighting outdoor fires altogether, warning that any necessary bonfires or barbecues must be placed far away from dry undergrowth, grass, overhanging branches, and nearby property.
