A local resident has been charged following the discovery of an explosive substance inside a home in Hawkinge.
The arrest took place on Tuesday 16 June 2026 after reports that a crossbow had been used to fire arrows at a neighboring property’s front porch. During a subsequent search of the home, police officers uncovered several suspicious items, prompting an assessment by a specialist British Army team.
The items were removed for further analysis, and investigators have since confirmed that at least one of them was a viable explosive substance.
The individual has remained in custody since the arrest and appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 30 June. Charges include possessing an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose, causing criminal damage to a neighbor’s porch, and possessing four unlawful weapons inside a private property.
The accused has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Canterbury Crown Court for a plea hearing on Monday 3 August.
