The Met Office has extended its Red Extreme Heat Warning through Friday, June 26, 2026, as the core of an unprecedented heatwave shifts heavily toward Kent and the South East.
Temperatures are forecast to hit a staggering 38°C (100°F), which would smash the UK’s previous June record of 35.6°C.
Experts warn that this event carries a high risk of heat stress for the entire population and not just vulnerable groups. The extreme daytime heat is being compounded by unusually high humidity and ‘Tropical Nights’, where overnight temperatures will remain above 20°C, preventing homes and bodies from cooling down.
Residents are urged to take immediate precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid outdoor exertion during peak hours.
