Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to reports of a muck heap alight in Monkton, Ramsgate, yesterday afternoon. Three fire engines attended the scene in Plumstone Road at 15:39 on Tuesday 9 June 2026.
Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used main jets, a telehandler, and specialist wildlife equipment, including drag rakes and portable water tanks, to bring the flames under control and extinguish the main seats of fire.
The incident was scaled down by 18:36, though crews will continue to monitor the area. Passersby and local residents are advised that these ‘zombie’ type of fires can take time to completely burn out, which may cause smoke to increase intermittently. No injuries have been reported.
