Suspected Firearms Smuggler in Dover Remanded in Custody

A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with smuggling firearms and ammunition, following a National Crime Agency investigation.

The accused is scheduled to make his next appearance at Canterbury Crown Court on 8 June. The appearance follows a hearing at a Kent Magistrates’ Court, which took place after the recovery of five handguns, a quantity of matching ammunition, and four AK47-style rifles.

The individual, who is from the Bradford area, was remanded in custody after being stopped on Saturday morning at the inbound tourist controls at Dover Eastern Docks. Border officers recovered the firearms and ammunition from the vehicle he was driving.
