FOLKESTONE – Firefighters were called to action early Monday evening following reports of a fire involving undergrowth in the Folkestone area. Kent Fire and Rescue Service received the alert at 18:29 on 27 April 2026, with crews promptly dispatched to the scene located near the local landmark of Sugarloaf Hill.
Two fire engines arrived to find a section of vegetation alight. To navigate the terrain and ensure the flames were thoroughly suppressed, firefighters used specialized portable equipment, including flexi-packs—which are wearable water tanks equipped with hand-operated sprays—and traditional fire buckets.
The coordinated effort allowed crews to bring the incident under control within the hour, with the fire officially recorded as extinguished by 19:17. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the operation. At this stage, the cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire in rural or wooded areas immediately to emergency services.
