Gravesend Burglary Call Leads Police to £90,000 Illegal Tobacco Haul

A police response to a reported burglary in Gravesend took an unexpected turn on April 6, 2026, when officers uncovered a massive cache of suspected illegal tobacco products.

Kent Police originally arrived at a rural site off Sole Street following reports that several individuals were attempting to break into a property. While the suspects had fled the immediate area by the time units arrived, the keen nose of Police Dog Boss and the expertise of his handler led to the discovery of one man hiding in a nearby bush, where he was promptly taken into custody.

The incident escalated from a routine break-in investigation to a major seizure after officers conducted a thorough search of the premises. Inside, they discovered a haul valued at approximately £89,400, consisting of thousands of cigarettes and 30kg of loose tobacco.

The 32-year-old suspect, from London, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and has since been released on bail. Detectives are currently continuing their enquiries to determine the origin of the seized goods and to identify the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
