A thirty-seven-year-old resident of Dover has been returned to custody after authorities uncovered a series of fresh sexual offences involving children and a violent confrontation with law enforcement.
David Whitehall, who was already under an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order stemming from a 2016 conviction, was apprehended during a routine check at his home on January 16, 2026.
The investigation began when officers discovered Whitehall had acquired a new smartphone to bypass his legal restrictions and initiate contact with minors online. During his arrest, the situation turned violent as Whitehall punched a responding officer in the face and continued to physically resist by attempting to kick and shove additional personnel who arrived to provide backup.
Subsequent forensic examinations of Whitehall’s digital devices revealed a disturbing pattern of behaviour. Investigators found evidence that he had been exchanging explicit photographs of himself with young people while soliciting inappropriate images from them. Furthermore, the search uncovered numerous indecent images of children, including twenty-seven videos classified as the most serious category under the law.
Whitehall faced a total of eight charges, including the production of indecent photographs of a child and the assault of an emergency worker. After pleading guilty during his initial hearing at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court, he was remanded in custody to await his final appearance. On Tuesday, April 8, Whitehall appeared before Canterbury Crown Court, where a judge sentenced him to three years and two months in prison.
Detective Constable Marie-Anne Boulton said:
‘Whitehall is a prolific child abuser, who has shown time and time again that he poses a serious risk to young people.
‘I am pleased that, thanks to the swift actions of officers monitoring his behaviour, Whitehall has been returned to prison, where he can no longer pose a threat to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.’
