Detectives have renewed their appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage after a collision in Canterbury tragically turned fatal. The incident, which occurred on the evening of Monday, 23 February 2026, involved a white Vauxhall Viva and a pedestrian on Sturry Road, near the junction with Kingsmead Road.

Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service initially responded to the scene at approximately 5.45pm. The pedestrian, a man in his 90s, was transported to a local hospital with multiple serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, he passed away as a result of those injuries on Tuesday, 24 March.

A 73-year-old man, the driver of the Vauxhall Viva, was arrested shortly after the incident. He has since been released on bail as investigators continue to build a full picture of the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Serious Collision Investigation Unit officers are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who saw the vehicle or the pedestrian in the moments leading up to it, to contact the authorities. They are particularly interested in speaking with motorists who were in the Sturry Road area at the time and may have relevant dashcam recordings.
