Canterbury has officially debuted a new e-bike sharing initiative in partnership with micromobility leader Beryl, marking a first for the county of Kent.

Funded by government Levelling Up grants and developer contributions, the project initially introduces 100 Segway B200 e-bikes across key locations like Burgate and The Riverside, with plans to expand soon to Wincheap and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

To use the service, riders register through the Beryl app and choose between pay-as-you-go or pre-paid minute bundles. The scheme utilizes geofenced stations to ensure orderly parking, while the bikes themselves feature advanced security locks managed via the app.

Cabinet member for transport Cllr Alex Ricketts highlighted the bikes as a “superb” way to link city districts while reducing traffic congestion. Beryl CEO Phil Ellis added that the long-term partnership aims to provide a sustainable transport alternative for the city’s commuters, students, and tourists. Residents can access the full network and pricing details by downloading the Canterbury Beryl Bikes app.
