A Ramsgate man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail following a campaign of sexual abuse against a teenage girl. The perpetrator, Abdurahrim Yalcin, 56, from Ramsgate, was found guilty of multiple sexual assaults that took place over a 10-month period.
The abuse began in 2022 when the victim was just 16 years old. Yalcin’s inappropriate behaviour rapidly escalated into severe assaults, with the victim reporting being touched both over and under her clothing on multiple occasions. During the period of abuse, Yalcin attempted to conceal his actions by offering the girl clothes and money “in an attempt to buy her silence,” according to court reports.
The victim made the brave decision to report the assaults to police on September 5, 2023, after realising the abuse was escalating and unlikely to stop. Yalcin was arrested the same day and subsequently charged with three counts of sexual assault. Despite maintaining his innocence and pleading not guilty at his initial appearance at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on June 26, 2024, a jury at Canterbury Crown Court found him guilty following a three-day trial. On Thursday, October 30, Yalcin was sentenced to 18 months in jail. He has also been ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
Detective Constable Daniel Dew said:
‘Yalcin was an opportunistic criminal who saw the vulnerability in his victim and exploited it repeatedly for his own gratification. His actions were calculated, predatory, and disturbing. I want to praise the victim for the bravery she has shown throughout this process. Her testimony and contributions have been vital in securing this sentence, and in bringing this man to justice.’
