A 23-year-old man is in custody following a spree of criminal damage that targeted multiple businesses in Maidstone town centre, resulting in thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Police apprehended the suspect after a foot pursuit, initiated when patrols responded to reports of windows being smashed with a fire extinguisher at several locations.
Kent Police were first alerted to the incidents at 7:44 pm on Sunday, May 11, 2025, following a reported break-in at Sainsbury’s in Romney Place, where significant damage was inflicted on the store’s windows. Subsequent reports detailed further damage at a number of commercial properties along King Street.
Officers arrived at the scene swiftly, where it is alleged the suspect threw the fire extinguisher at them, causing damage to a police vehicle. Following a brief foot chase, the 23-year-old man was detained and taken into police custody.
