£20,000 parked lorry theft suspect held after driver slept in cab at M2 services

A man has been arrested following the alleged theft of shoes valued at over £20,000 from a lorry parked near Gillingham.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, April 11, 2025, at a service station on the M2 motorway. Alerted by a security guard who noticed suspicious activity near parked lorries, police swiftly responded to the scene. They discovered that a lorry had reportedly been targeted while the driver was asleep inside.

Police patrols were immediately dispatched along the London-bound carriageway. Their efforts led to a truck being stopped later in Cadogan Terrace, Stratford, London. A 35-year-old man was subsequently arrested, and officers recovered boxes of shoes estimated to be worth almost £23,000.

The arrested individual has been charged with theft, driving without insurance, and driving without the appropriate licence. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 12, and has been remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, May 9.
