A man has been charged following a violent robbery in Maidstone in which a victim’s thumb was nearly completely severed with a knife, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Kent Police responded to reports of a robbery near the A20 Ashford Road at approximately 9 am on March 21, 2025. According to police, the suspect, posing as a delivery driver, allegedly threatened the occupants of a residence and then violently assaulted one of them with a knife.

The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered severe injuries, most notably a near-severed thumb. South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics treated the victim on-site before transporting him to a local hospital for urgent medical attention.

“This was a particularly violent and distressing incident,” stated a spokesperson for Kent Police. “The severity of the victim’s injuries underscores the level of violence used.”

Following extensive initial inquiries, detectives arrested a man aged 36 from Maidstone, on Friday, March 28. He has since been charged with robbery. The accused appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, March 29, where he was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on April 25 for a further hearing.

The incident has prompted heightened concern among residents regarding safety in the area. Kent Police has assured the community that they are conducting a thorough investigation and are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice.
