Seven individuals were ordered to leave Sittingbourne town centre over the weekend as police implemented a dispersal order to combat persistent antisocial behaviour. The operation, aimed at addressing disruptive conduct that had been troubling residents and local businesses, ran from Friday, March 28th, to Sunday, March 30th, 2025.

Local constables, conducting foot patrols, targeted a small group of individuals whose actions were deemed to be causing significant concern. The dispersal order granted officers the authority to instruct anyone engaging in nuisance behaviour to immediately vacate the designated area, with those who returned facing arrest.

In addition to the dispersal orders, police arrested a local man suspected of three separate confectionery and food thefts, amounting to nearly £150. The suspect was also apprehended on an outstanding court warrant and was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.

During the operation, officers seized alcohol being consumed within a Public Space Protection Order zone and recovered an off-road motorcycle being ridden illegally in a nearby retail park. The rider was issued with a traffic offence report. The police have confirmed they will continue to monitor the area.

Inspector Julia Bassindale said:

‘This weekend is a continuation of our work to target the young people who cause a nuisance when they visit the town centre. Of those ordered to leave the area, some live locally and others have travelled from neighbouring locations. In every case, their parents received a visit and strong words of advice from one of our patrols, while our Child Centred Policing Team will also be assessing what further measures are required.

‘Whilst on patrol, we spoke to many members of the public as well as shop owners who supported our ongoing work to tackle anti social behaviour. We are determined to continue this enforcement and will be taking action against those who persist in causing problems for local people.’
