A remarkable journey of dedication and service culminated last Thursday, March 27th, 2025, as Jon Morgan officially assumed the role of full-time Coxswain at Dungeness Lifeboat Station. This milestone marks the culmination of a decade-long commitment to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), transitioning from volunteer to leader.

Morgan, who began his full-time staff role in January of this year, successfully completed his rigorous coxswain assessment, proving his competence and readiness to command the Dungeness lifeboat. His story is one of inspiration, demonstrating that dedication and commitment can lead to extraordinary achievements.

Vicky Morgan, Lifeboat Operations Manager, says:

‘Jon started out as shore crew then progressed to boat crew and through his hard work and dedication, he went on to become Navigator and then Shannon Afloat Mechanic. He has now passed out as Coxswain, taking command of the lifeboat and taking the lead at the lifeboat station.

I am incredibly proud of him and the whole team that consistently work so hard to provide training opportunities and support to all that volunteer or work at the station.’

Jon takes the reins from Jason Adams, preceding full time coxswain, who has taken full time employment elsewhere but will continue to volunteer at Dungeness.

Jon is a key figurehead at Dungeness Lifeboat station and as his experience has grown over the years, he has provided training and support to new recruits and is highly respected by all volunteers.
