Sittingbourne’s neighbourhood team has continued their battle against retail crime with the arrest of a man suspected of multiple thefts and failing to pay a taxi fare. Between Tuesday 4 March and Friday 21 March 2025, several shoplifting offences were reported at Marks and Spencer in the town’s retail park, and Tesco in Quartz Way.

Items allegedly stolen included meat products and confectionary valued at almost £250. An investigation was commenced and officers subsequently arrested a suspect in Glenbrook Road. They also seized some suspected stolen Easter eggs.

A man of no fixed address, was later charged with six counts of theft. He was also charged with making off from a taxi on Wednesday 19 February, without paying for his fare. The 42 year old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 22 March and was remanded to a hearing at the same court on Friday 11 April.
