A Cliftonville man has been arrested and fined for repeatedly blocking a public footpath with a tent, as part of a wider police operation targeting antisocial behavior in the area.

A man aged 46, was apprehended on Friday, March 7, 2025, after officers observed him in Zion Place breaching a Community Protection Notice (CPN). The CPN was issued to curb aggressive begging and harassment of the public.

Pitching a tent on the pavement and blocking a doorway

His arrest stemmed from two specific incidents in February, where he was found to have obstructed pedestrian access by pitching a tent on the pavement and blocking a doorway. He was subsequently brought before the court and fined for two counts of breaching the CPN.

Three day operation

The arrest formed part of a three-day operation by local beat officers, who have been working with businesses and residents to address persistent antisocial behavior in Cliftonville. On Saturday, March 8, A man was arrested on Northdown Road on suspicion of stealing alcohol from a Tesco store on February 28. He has since been charged and fined and a third arrest occurred on Sunday, March 9, near St. Paul’s Church, where a man was apprehended in connection with an ongoing shoplifting investigation.

The man has been charged and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
