Swale’s ongoing campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour has resulted in the closure of a property in Sheerness. Following numerous complaints from local residents regarding disorder and drug misuse, police, in partnership with a housing association, secured a three-month closure order for an address on Clyde Street.
Despite prior warnings to the occupants about their behaviour, the disturbances continued, prompting officers to take legal action. Medway Magistrates’ Court authorised the closure on Thursday, February 6, 2025. The property has since been secured, and a notice has been posted warning that entry is prohibited.
Anyone who enters the premises without authorisation during the closure period faces potential fines and imprisonment. This action underscores the commitment of local authorities to address anti-social behaviour and improve the quality of life for residents in Swale.
Inspector Julia Bassindale said:
‘This enforcement has been possible thanks to residents raising their concerns with their local constable. Those who have a detrimental impact of the quality of life for communities have to realise there are consequences to this behaviour.
‘We are determined to tackle the problem when it arises and will work with council colleagues and other housing providers to respond effectively.
‘I would urge any other residents who are suffering similar issues to contact us so that we can work promptly to resolve any concerns.’
