A suspect has been charged after two officers were allegedly threatened with an axe in Gillingham say Kent Police.

It’s reported that at 2.36am on Tuesday 10 December 2024, patrols were called to a report that a vehicle’s window was being damaged in Chaucer Road. Two constables attended the scene where it is alleged one was assaulted as a suspect sought to leave the area on foot.

It was also reported he was brandishing an axe. A man was subsequently detained near the town centre and taken into custody.

A man from Chatham, was later charged with assaulting an emergency worker, possessing an axe in a public place and two counts of threatening a person with a bladed article. The 44-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 11 December.
