November’s Women Together event in Willesborough Photo: Kent Police

An event aimed at empowering women in Ashford organised by Kent Police Community Liaison Officer, Catherine Stevens, is to be held in Kennington on Friday 6 December.

The event, called Women Together will feature a number of talks and workshops for women to take part in and is the third such event to be organised by Catherine. Last month she worked with local councillor Liz Wright to bring a similar event to Willesborough Baptist Church, which saw around 40 women attend.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Ashford, Lyn Suddards, with talks through the morning by councillors, and Radio Ashford DJ Sam Griffin. Representatives from Kent Police will provide information about the work that the force does to tackle violence against women and girls.

An interactive self-defence class will be available to take part in, given by a seventh Dan Grand Master of Taekwondo, and there will also be a Bollywood dance class.

Representatives from a number of charities and organisations are taking part and will give wellbeing advice and explain about the support they can offer to women in the area.
