Cllr Anita Jones with volunteers planting tree whips in Hythe Images: Folkestone and Hythe District Council

Local legend and council chair, Cllr Anita Jones, has been busy planting the seeds of a greener future. With a mission to boost biodiversity across the district, she’s sourced hundreds of free whips from The Woodland Trust and rallied volunteers to get their hands dirty.

Last week, a dedicated team of councillors and community members descended upon Hythe, planting a whopping 600 trees. From county and district officials to residents of Napier Barracks and the Hythe Civic Society, everyone pitched in to make a difference.

And the green revolution doesn’t stop there! Dymchurch and New Romney are next on the list, set to benefit from their own share of young trees. So, keep your eyes peeled for a greener, more vibrant district, all thanks to the tireless efforts of Cllr Jones and her dedicated team.

There are approximately 200 left and, with it being National Tree Week, community groups and schools with location suggestions are being encouraged to get in touch. Cllr Anita Jones, Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s chair, said:

“Trees give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife.

“This is the best time of the year to plant them, so I’m very keen to hear from groups from across the district who have somewhere in mind.”
