Kent Police was contacted in March 2023 when the victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a man. Anthony Collins was identified as the perpetrator and he was questioned about the offences later the same month. The 55 year old, formerly of Maison Dieu Road, was later charged with sexual activity with a child and admitted the offences before Canterbury Crown Court in May 2024.

On 22 November, he was sentenced to seven and half years and ordered to serve an extra four and a half years on licence following that term.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Maria Cutter said:

‘The victim in this case showed great bravery in reporting the incident first to a friend and then to police.’I am pleased we were able to quickly bring charges, which have led to this dangerous offender being jailed for a considerable period of time.

‘I urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual offences, whether recently or some time ago, to speak to police as soon as possible.

‘We will work with you to take the action which is right for you. Coming forward could also help protect others from sexual offenders, or those who pose harm to women and girls.’
