A suspected drug dealer has appeared in court after a car failed to stop for officers in Chatham. During the evening of Sunday 20 October 2024, a patrol sought to stop a Kia that had travelled through the Medway Tunnel without its headlights on.

The car failed to stop and is reported to have been driven dangerously towards the town centre where the only occupant left on foot near the bus station. Officers seized bags of cannabis from the vehicle and enquiries were completed to identify the driver.

On Tuesday 5 November, constables were on patrol in Christopher Road when they detained a suspect but the man is alleged to have obstructed them while he was being searched and he was taken into custody. The officers also seized deals of cannabis and cocaine.

A suspect of no fixed address, was later charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply, two counts of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, dangerous driving, failing to stop a vehicle when required by a constable and obstructing an officer. The 31 year old, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 7 November. He was remanded in custody to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 6 December.
