Folkestone & Hythe District Council is set to revolutionize affordable housing in the area with the purchase of 44 properties at Risborough Barracks. The council has secured planning consent for the site in Shorncliffe and will use its Housing Revenue Account to fund the acquisition.
These new homes will be a game-changer for local residents. A mix of affordable rent and shared ownership options will be available, ensuring that people from all walks of life can have access to quality housing. The council is also committed to sustainability, with all properties undergoing energy efficiency upgrades to achieve an EPC rating of B. This will not only help residents save money on their energy bills but also contribute to the council’s carbon reduction goals.
Cllr Rebecca Shoob, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, expressed her excitement about this project.
“These properties will significantly increase our housing stock and provide much-needed homes for our residents. Not only will they help us meet our Housing Revenue Account business plan targets, but the energy efficiency measures will also ensure that our tenants’ homes are comfortable and sustainable for years to come.”
