A targeted crackdown on antisocial behaviour in Maidstone has yielded impressive results, with reports dropping by nearly 70% in recent months.

Local police have been actively patrolling hotspots in the Fant area, utilizing stop and search powers and seizing nuisance vehicles to combat the problem. This coordinated response has been a direct result of concerns raised by residents and businesses.

In September alone, the number of reported incidents plummeted to just seven, following increased patrols in areas such as Clare Park and Lockmeadow car park. Officers conducted 20 stop and searches, confiscating eight vehicles, including e-scooters and an off-road bike.

Chief Inspector Mark McLellan expressed his satisfaction with the progress made:

“We’ve seen a significant decrease in antisocial behavior, which has had a positive impact on the community. Our ongoing efforts will focus on identifying and addressing hotspots, ensuring a safer environment for everyone.”

The crackdown has also led to arrests in connection with other criminal activities, including bilking offences and possession of drugs.

As the positive results continue to unfold, police are urging residents to report any incidents of antisocial behaviour. This community involvement is crucial in building an accurate picture of the problem and allowing for more effective responses.
