The University of Kent’s Lunchtime Concert series returns this October, offering an exciting range of musical performances that are once again sponsored by Kent law firm, Furley Page.   

The Autumn programme begins on Wednesday 23rd October, with the Geoff Mason Sextet, featuring Steve Fishwick on trumpet, Mike Coats on tenor sax, Geoff Mason on trombone, John Horler on piano, Tim Wells on bass and Winston Clifford on drums. The set titled Blakey and Beyond pays tribute to Art Blakey’s jazz combo, The Jazz Messengers. 

On Wednesday 13th November, Australian Cellist, William Jack, best known for incorporating his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing, with a passion for breaking boundaries between genres and cultures. He performed his solo compositions from his debut album This Old Cello Box live on BBC Radio 3 at the Edinburgh Fringe and was selected to perform as a ‘New Folk’ songwriter at the 2023 Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. The concert will be followed by a workshop with some of this year’s students. 

The programme ends on Wednesday 4th December with a magical performance of The Winter Fairy, by Elodie Chousmer-Howelles on the violin and Julian Chan on piano. Elodie is a former BBC Young Musician string finalist and is best known for her performances with the Chineke! Orchestra, collaborations with artists such as Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Noel Gallagher, and her performances for the BBC Proms.

 This Autumn’s Lunchtime Concert programme will again take place in the Colyer-Fergusson Hall at the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus; admission is free, with a suggested donation of £3.
