In a dramatic turn of events, a burglar has confessed to a brazen break-in at a Sittingbourne pharmacy, making off with a stash of prescription medication and a vehicle belonging to the shop.

The daring heist occurred overnight between Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, 2024. The pharmacy was left reeling after discovering the theft on Monday morning, prompting a swift police response.

Officers launched an immediate investigation, leading them to properties in Gillingham and Sittingbourne. During the searches, they uncovered a haul of prescription drugs and other suspected stolen items. A man was apprehended at one location, while a woman, believed to be his accomplice, was arrested at the second property.

The stolen vehicle had already been recovered after a suspicious man was spotted near the car in Cowper Road, Gillingham, at 3:11 am on Sunday.

George Bignall, 45, from Sittingbourne, has been charged with multiple offences, including burglary, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and driving while disqualified. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 2, where he admitted to the crimes and was remanded in custody. Bignall is set to face Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, December 31.

A 44-year-old woman from Gillingham, arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, has been released on bail until Saturday, December 28.
