A suspect has been charged following an incident in Canterbury where a police officer was attacked.

Kent Police responded to a call at 9:05 PM on Thursday, 29 August 2024, regarding an assault in Wincheap. Upon arrival, officers identified and arrested a suspect nearby but during the arrest, a police officer was reportedly assaulted.

A 37-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempting to wound the officer with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He is also charged with assaulting a member of the public and causing criminal damage to the man’s ear pods.

The man appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 31 August, and has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 30 September.
