Extra police officers were on patrol this evening (Wednesday 7 August 2024) but Kent Police have reported just five arrests in Chatham after a small number of scuffles during the evening.
Kent Police were patrolling the High Street area of Gillingham, the area around Chatham railway station, the Castle Hill Road area of Dover and the University Road area of Canterbury, and had additional powers to deal with anyone suspected of being involved in crime or disorder.
Officers had the powers to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying weapons or planning to commit offences and anyone asked to leave certain areas needed do so or risk being arrested.
