At around 3.40am on Sunday 28 July 2024, a man in his 20s, was walking down Gabriel’s Hill into Lower Stone Street with a friend, when he was approached by a stranger who spoke to him and then allegedly struck the side of his head.

The victim ran from the scene to find he had suffered two cuts to his neck. He later went to hospital for medical treatment.

Officers arrested a man in Week Street around an hour later and he was taken into custody. It is further alleged the suspect later assaulted two police officers whilst in custody and spat in a cell van. The man from Beckenham, Greater London appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 July.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault on an emergency worker and criminal damage. The 40-year-old was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 27 August.
